Mary Lee’s Meals really began
in Mary Lee’s childhood at the apron strings of her grandmothers.
Her paternal grandmother was a fantastic baker who made cookies
for all the weddings in her church. She was the kind of grandmother
who always smelled like her pantry—sugary, vanilla-y,
sweet. Alas, most of her recipes went with her to that great
kitchen in the sky but Mary Lee has scavenged for, and managed
to salvage many of her favorites. Her maternal grandparents
had a restaurant with the uncontested best spaghetti sauce
in the Beaver Valley. It was there her love of the food industry
really took root.

| Mary Lee started by entertaining,
baking wedding cookies for friends and buying cookbooks like
some women buy shoes. This all led to her teaching wedding
cookie and candy classes at the Community College of Allegheny
County . The College extended her classes to include appetizer
classes, full meal classes and specialty goodie classes. Mary
Lee expanded her teaching to private classes in her home kitchen.
While deciding to open out that endeavor, she learned about
the flourishing meal assembly business from her son and daughter-in-law
who live North Carolina. |
 |
| Mary Lee and her husband decided that meal assembly was a
good way to keep families eating around the table together.
They merged that with the cooking classes and added a take
out, ready-to-cook meal option. That completed the Make it!
(meal assembly) Take it! (ready-to-go meals) and the Learn
To Bake it! (Mary Lee’s cooking classes) trilogy. They
knew they had a good combination that would just get better. |
